Displaying the Marvelous : Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí, and Surrealist Exhibition
Published in Paperback by MIT Press (April, 2003)
Author: Lewis Kachur
Average review score:

Duchamp is very good curator
I have never read like the book about Marcel Duchamp, because the book focuses on the side of the curator of Duchamp. The book is about the Surrealist exihibitions in 1930's and 1940's. And the backgrounds of the exhibitions are very detailed and lively. I recommend the book to those who like, of course, Duchamp and are interested in installation.

scholarship and humor
Written with keen perception and humor, Lewis Kachur's latest book is likely to become a classic both in the fields of surrealism and of installations. It is scholarly and highly readable.

The Story ofAnne Frank
Anne Frank is jewish. The Nazis want everyjew to wear a star that says jood. But they are hidingin the secret annex.so that they wont be sent to secret Gearmamany camps to wrok in.
I feel sorry for anne frank because she did not get to be free. I recommend this book to people who are not prejudice because some people did not like jewish people like Adolf .A.Hitler.I think that the people who read it are going to enjoy it because it was alot of fun reading anne franks diary.Because you can see how she sufferd hiding in the secret anex for 3 years .
I liked this book because it was fun reading. Anne franks diary and how her life was back then becuse we were not born yet .It was also alot of fun knowing about her life because you can see she is exprissing her feelingswith her diary named kitty AnneFrank had to hide in the secret annex for a reson. If I fauond Anne Franks diary I would not give it to any body so I could read her secrets .so anne frank sufferd a hard life.

A remarkable diary written by a remarkable girl!
Anne Frank lived a secret life with her family. She had to hide from the Nazis and she wrote her experiences in a diary. This is written for ages 4-8, however I would recommend it for ages 6-8. This story has more complex sentence structure, information boxes an alphabetical glossary and a comprehensive index.

When Otto gave Anne a red and light-green checked notebook with a metal lock, she never imagined the impact she would have on the world by writing her thoughts down. This is in a story format with snippets from the actual diary.

There is a picture of the place Anne hid and a picture of Anne Frank. This book just brings her story to life for young children. When people think of Anne, they think of her courage, her sense of humor and her hopes for the future.

The actual diary was first published in America in 1952 as Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. Anne dreamed of becoming one of the most famous authors in the world. I just wish she had lived to realize her dream.

For me, Anne Frank is symbolic of everything that is right about life and everything that is wrong about war. Thankfully Miep Gies kept Anne's diary which sadly, she had hoped to return to Anne. I think this book will help younger children gain a new appreciation for the lives they have and realize that not all children were as lucky to live the life they live.

Inspirational and sad, all at the same time. I have also reviewed the movie called: The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) which shows the beauty of the her spirit in the midst of an evil and ugly war.

Doll Sculpting

Authors: Lewis Goldstein and Louis Goldstein

Excellent!!
I have a number of books on sculpting, but always had difficulties in sculpting faces. Lewis Goldstein made it easy. He broke the process down into such detail that even I wound up with a beautifully sculpted face. His diagrams and text, if followed step by step, will help you produce a beautiful doll or sculpture. Thanks, Lewis!

Doll Sculpting
Great book for first time sculptors or Wanna Be sculpters. In the world of dolls Lewis Goldstein is known as the Doll Father. The information is easy to comprehend along with examples and pictures. I was so impressed by the book that it prompted me to take a sculpting seminar with Lewis. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about scuplting. If you are serious about learning to sculpt, this is the book to get.

Down Home Grizzard: Three Bestselling Works Complete in One Volume: Don't Forget to Call Your Mama, Does a Wild Bear Chip in the Woods?,Southern by the Grace of God?
Published in Hardcover by Galahad Books (September, 1998)
Author: Lewis Grizzard
Average review score:

Great collection
Anyone not familiar with Lewis Grizzard ought to be in for a treat reading these books. I grew up reading Grizzard in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and I remember laughing out loud at the breakfast table so, so many times. Grizzard was a terrifically funny man, southern to the core and wrote basically about what he knew best- life in the south. Grizzard was more than just a funny guy, however, he was a real writer, a true talent. This collection makes me realize how much I miss him. You don't have to be southern to appreciate Grizzard, however, no more than you'd have to be from the Midwest to like Garrison Keillor. This is Grizzard at his best.

Solid Gold Grizzard
Lewis Grizzard is to southern humor what Elvis is to rock n roll, a legend that will live in our hearts forever. "Down Home Grizzard" is an excellent read as well as a beautiful memory to the late king of southern humor. The man is just plain funny.

Edith Wharton a Biography
Published in Paperback by Harpercollins Publisher (01 January, 1977)
Author: R W B Lewis
Average review score:

A much needed reappraisal
Edith Wharton until recently has not received the interest and praise she deserved as one of the finest American authors -- was it because she was wealthy and female? Because people thought she was simply a protege of Henry James? Or because her books rarely had happy endings? Fortunately, a new generation is reappraising her work and finding much of value in it, from her critique of early 20th century American society and subtle assessment of man-woman relationships to her wonderfully textured and evocative style. RWB Lewis, who must be the foremost Wharton scholar today, brings Wharton to life in this book -- her tremendous intelligence, the terrific emotional hardships she endured, her great capacity for friendships and amazing zest for life. Wharton got started late as an author, not publishing her first book until nearly 40 -- because she had to overcome a tremendous hurdle -- being born into a society where women writers simply did not exist. Everything she accomplished thus was purely out of her own drive to communicate and create. If you haven't read much Wharton, I recommend also The Age of Innocence, The Custom of the Country, The House of Mirth, and any short stories you can lay your hands on.

Very interesting
I had to read this for a college class about 10 years ago and was reluctant at first. It turned out to be a very interesting, informative book. It's quite large, but enjoyable - the pictures were especially fascinating, especially of Edith's various homes throughout her lifetime.

Effective E-Mail Marketing: The Complete Guide to Creating Successful Campaigns
Published in Unknown Binding by Amacom Books (E) (May, 2002)
Author: Herschell Gordon Lewis
Average review score:

Custom-tailored Comments from an Industry Guru
Lewis is a copywriting and marketing guru with over 25 books under his belt. This book is designed for the times, when so many marketers are concerned about how to get their message out by electronic mail--a lot cheaper than the alternative offered by the United States Postal Service. Benefit: at least e-mail gets through; unfortunately, a lot of bulk mail has not made it to addressees over the years.

So what's different about the electronic approach, other than the method of distribution? Don't you still need great copy and an effective target list of potential buyers?

There are a lot of similarities between electronic and postal direct mail, so you'll read chapters on words and phrases that work and don't work. You'll still get the advice on how to construct your message to grab the attention of the recipient. This immediate attention issue is even more acute with e-mail: hitting the DELETE button is a lot quicker than handling a piece of mail, opening it or not, and tossing it in the trash.

Lewis has tailored this book nicely to this new medium, exploring how to adapt to this communications vehicle without getting burned. Chapters discuss opt-ins, avoiding the "spam" accusation, and how to use the e-mail subject line most effectively. He explores how to establish rapport through e-mail, using personalization and psychology to elicit the desired response. The chapter on rich media and viral mail is certainly something you won't find in a typical marketing book.

This book is filled with medium-specific information, quelling my fear that this would be just another marketing book with "E-Mail" dropped in the front of the title. These pages are a treasure-trove of resources and tailored advice. The ten pages of tips at the end of the book supplement the tips that appear on the pages throughout the text. An abundance of examples illustrate the author's points. Indexed.

Using techniques that grab reader attention
Herschell Gordon Lewis' Effective Email Marketing tells how to avoid the common pitfalls of the typical email marketing program to focus on massmarket messages which get results. Individualization and customization are part of the keys, as well as using techniques that grab reader attention.

El león, la bruja, y el armario
Published in Paperback by Ediciones Alfaguara, S.A. (July, 1999)
Author: C. S. Lewis
Average review score:

Empowerment of a Race: The Revitalization of Black Institutions
Published in Hardcover by Black Belt Press (01 February, 1999)
Authors: Jesse J. Lewis and John Hayman
Average review score:

The timing for this book is perfect. It is well-researched!
If there has ever been a wake up call, this book is the alarm clock. We (black) have got to start taking responsibility for ourselves and our children. We are all parents. There is an old African saying, "It takes a whole village to raise one child." If we want to be called African-Americans, let's get to the real grit of the matter and not just wear the print as a symbol. Dr. Lewis made it when it was easier not to make it and blame others for our lack of achievement! That soup won't mix today. Let us help our children make it by taking a stand. Don't know how to begin? Buy this book; help the cause and it will in return help you to get the back bone to help our children. I am undelining different passages for my grandchildren so they will know what the future is going to be like by studying the past. Haven't you heard, history repeats itself. Experience is the best teacher. Wisdom says let's learn from the experience of others.

Educational, inspirational, while telling it like it is!
Empowerment of a Race doesn't just tell what is wrong, but what can be done to correct the error. It states: "For all people, education is the key to survival and to prosperity. The extended family needs to understand that as a race of people who are attempting to achieve political, economic, and social empowerment for the yet unborn black Americans, they cannot afford to accept handouts or welfare. They must understand that no one is going to do any more for the black community than the black community is willing to do for itself." The book maintains, "When foreigners come to our country with a language barrier and overcome this obstacle and set every type of academic record, the question is why can't we black Americans? We cannot because we are not committed. If we were, we would limit television viewing to two hours a day and restrict it largely to educational news." I enjoyed the book! It is not only filled with historical facts--and not in a boring way--but it tells what can and should be done to move forward. Everyone may not agree with some of his strong statements, but I got the feeling he cares so much about his people...the black race, he wants to shake us and say..."Hey! Wake up. You have time to do something to make the world an even greater place for our children's children. But you have to get up and do something." Dr. Lewis is donating ALL proceeds from this book to the NAACP, SCLC, UNCF, and the URBAN LEAGUE. He's not just talking the talk, but he's walking the talk of which he writes about! Bravo!!!

End Your Addiction Now : The Proven Nutritional Supplement Program That Can Set You Free
Published in Hardcover by Warner Books (January, 2002)
Authors: Charles Gant and Greg Lewis
Average review score:

Very Helpful Information
I am the webowner of Mental Health Today. I have always been an advocate of nutrition and I was greatly impressed with Dr. Gant's book. I feel that he provides us with some excellent and very helpful information.

The biggest issue I can think of is for those people who have "more expensive" habits such as non-prescription opiates, methamphetamines, etc. Nutritional supplements are quite expensive unfortunately and many of us who don't have drug habits are unable to afford sizeable amounts of these supplements.

Now you can really understand substance abuse
This book describes, in lay terms, a growing sub-specialty within addictions treatment that is based on nutritional medicine. It's a treatment protocol that is becoming more popular -- because people are realizing how effective it can be. Plus it's based solidly on science: published medical research documenting the interrelationship between brain chemistry, nutrition and substance use.

Read this book to learn why you crave nicotine, alcohol or drugs (it's because of how they affect your brain chemistry). The book also provides questionnaires to help you figure out what nutrients you can use to get yourself back into balance. Many people Dr. Gant have treated (he's been doing this for 15 years) have "quit" without even trying -- I mean, imagine being able to stop smoking, as one example, without any withdrawal symptoms at all!

I've known Dr. Gant personally for years, and as many others who know him would agree, his work could help so many people! If you have a cigarette, booze or drug habit, or love someone who uses drugs, please try this book!
